In 1889, Robert Stodart Wyld, a brother of my great great grandfather George Wyld, published a set of memoirs entitled: The Memoir of James Wyld of Gilston and His Family, also of Robert Stodart of Kailzie and Ormiston Hill
Because of the strong family connection to the Commercial Bank of Scotland, which later became subsumed into the Royal Bank of Scotland, it was held in their library in Edinburgh. I obtained it from them on indefinite loan in 1977 and it later passed to a cousin who intends to scan and OCR the pages when he has time to do so. I have also ascertained that I can obtain a scanned copy from the National Library of Scotland but the cost will be in the region of £500!! However, my aunt Helena Brown began typing a copy in 1977, and I have scanned the pages she originally typed, and made them available here as a temporary measure.
I am grateful to Tanya Trayner for providing me with the picture of Robert Stodart Wyld.
I have not had time to organise or type out the scanned pages properly so I have simply created a series of links to the image files; OCR software failed to yield useable results due to the poor quality of the typewriter used to create these pages. Nor have I had time to reduce their size in kb so they will take a long time to display. You will get the best results if you right-click on the links below, and choose the option to "save target as" and save the files on your own computer and view them with your image-viewing software - that way it will be easiest for you to view them at their proper size, because Internet Explorer browser tends to reduce the size of images to fit the size of the browser window which makes the text too small to read. Moreover, because the pages are foolscap, I had to scan most of the pages twice to get the whole content in. Therefore there is often a page a and a page b. However, despite all this, I decided to release them in the meantime as they are of such interest.
