If this Robert Dick married Elizabeth Munn on 29th January 1793 in Greenock, then I have deduced that he was born circa 1768 (Glasgow). For other possible marriage registry matches please refer to the page about his daughter Margaret. It appears from the quotes below that he died around 1829 when the journals in question would have been published.
A lady in Australia informs me that Robert Dick was very much involved in the Australian Company set up in Scotland, and that although born in Glasgow, he appears in April 1829 as an Edinburgh Merchant with daughters Catharine and Isabella. There are Sydney marriage notices in 1829 for Catherine and Isabella Dick.
Catharine Dick married Captain Lachlan McKinnon of the Australia Company's ship, "City of Edinburgh", in Sydney. Catharine appears not to have lived long after her marriage, but she cannot find her place or date of death. The NSW Registry of Deaths does, however, show some children for her.
Isabella Dick married Charles McLachlan in Sydney in May 1829 and had five daughters and three sons. She died in Brighton, England, on 7 December 1882, aged 76. Further information about Charles Maclachlan is in the Australian Dictionary of Biography. One of their daughters was Clarke, Margaret Turner (1836 - 1887).
In Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine, 1829:
April 9. At Sydney, New South Wales, Capt. Lachlan McKinnon, of the Australian Company's ship City of Edinburgh, to Catherine, second daughter, and on the 28th, Charles McLachlan, Esq., Manager for the Australian Company at Hobart Town, to Isabella, youngest daughter of the late Robert Dick, Esq., merchant, Glasgow.
Very interesting because Duncan Mackellar, husband of Margaret Dick, was the captain of the City of Edinburgh for a time.
Further details of his children are on the page pertaining to his daughter Margaret. I am also informed that there were other children too.
Here are some possible birthdates and parents for Robert Dick. I have highlighted the two most likely in bold.
