The following information comes from my grandfather's (Claud Leonard Broun) writings:
"... John Kennedy, born 1728 [1729 ?] left Ayrshire for England, and married Nan Hadfield, one of those sisters so handsome that they were known as 'the Lancashire Witches'...
"In religion, my forbears had all, so far back as I know of
them, been adherents of Presbyterianism, except the Kennedys who were Unitarians."
And from an earlier set of writings:
"John Kennedy the second had left Ayrshire in the middle of the 18th century, and married an English lady, Nan Hadfield. ... The Kennedies were Unitarians... "
There is a problem here because I found that he was born in London, not Ayrshire, so it is more likely that my grandfather is referring to the father, also John Kennedy.
My father tells me that there is a tradition in the family that this branch of Kennedys are descended from the Earls of Cassilis, because one of his Kennedy ancestors used their heading on his notepaper.
